Spotted over at dance music satire site Wunderground this morning was a humorous – if not believable- about a brand new Pioneer CDJ unit, the “CDJ-Zero”. The concept behind the unit is that Pioneer would give away the hardware for free, but you’d have to pay up for and download every track you play through the unit itself.
The hardware is actually an old mockup rendering of a Pioneer CDJ-1000MK3 – which as , has been floating around the web for years (waiting for the perfect fake press release article to come out).
Here’s a few of our favorite moments from the press release:
- Solar-Powered Batteries — “Pioneer have left out the addition of a traditional battery or power supply, instead opting for a greener-option in the form of a solar powered energy pack. This also means the unit costs zero to run, however users may experience problems playing the unit in darkened rooms or at night time.”
- Burst Sync Mode — “the user can SYNC and then mix the next 6 tracks with the touch of one button, leaving the DJ free to dance on stage, crowdsurf, or chat to girls.”
- Built-In Advertising – “a game changing in-built advertising feature whereby a 30 second advertisement plays during every DJ’s set, roughly around every 20 minutes or so and in between songs so it doesn’t spoil the vibe in the room.”
- A Porky’s Reference — instead of the normal quote from Davey Arevalo, the article includes quotes from “Pioneer’s Head of Marketing, Michael Hunt”. Our forum members seem to think it’s a reference to a joke in the classic 1982 film Porky’s. Intentional? We’ll leave that one up to you.
We’ve known Pioneer to put out , but this one isn’t for real. Besides, do you really think that Pioneer would release a unit that costs $0?
